Primary and Secondary Memory
When using a computer, memory is classified into two categories: primary and secondary memory
In comparison, primary memory is generally processed faster than secondary memory, though secondary memory is capable of holding more data (80GB to 4TB) compared to primary memory (512MB to 4GB). Cost wise, primary memory devices are more costly than secondary memory storage devices. Also, since primary memory is only stored within internally and accessed when the system is operating, the devices are semiconductor memories, while secondary memory devices are magnetic and optical.
